With a base in Guangzhou located between Guangzhou and Glasgow The photographer is an intriguing photographer who has a keen eye on the complexities of life.

A native of a rural community in southern China and generating the majority of her work in the busy city of Glasgow Chuqiao Liu is photographer who has been intrigued by the transformations and contradictions brought about by the modernization of society. “China today is undergoing a period of change, with fast economic and political developments causing the gap between generations,” Chuqiao tells It’s Good that. “The younger, rebellious and depressed generation is a mess, as are the depraved and confused middle-aged generation who came from the conflict and have were pushed back by time.”

She attributes her “agrarian” family life as the reason she is an “uncompromising feminist” which has led her to address a variety of issues relating to gender and equality in her work. “Artists are all humanists with their own issues, but I want that my work doesn’t guide the viewer directly,” she says. “But instead, I hope it will stimulate their thoughts about life and encourages people to reflect.” Indeed, it does since Chuqiao’s work provides an insightful glimpse of the youth in China and lets us “feel the waves of thought and the power that is brought by various cultural traditions”.
